Juicin’ it up!
I am a newly hooked “juicer”. I’ve heard so much and read a lot about the benefits of juicing – including improved health, stronger fingernails, prettier hair and clearer skin, increased metabolism, decreased appetite…I could go on and on. I never really understood the appeal though, until I started doing the juicing for a new client of mine. I mean, who really wants to drink a glass full of green stuff? She asked Off Your Plate to shop for her fresh veggies & fruit and then learn how to use her juicer. She wanted a week’s worth of juices, readily available on the shelf of her fridge.
As I created new combos that resulted in juice – including kale, carrots, spinach, apples, oranges, celery, cucumbers, strawberries, parsley, mangos, lemons, limes, honey, cilantro…I discovered how incredibly delish these things tasted when the juice poured from the spout! I instantly realized all of the benefits, mostly including how easy it was to get your day’s worth of veggies & fruit in one or two perfect glasses of juice.
Well friends, let me tell you something…I bought my own juicer last weekend (the sharper image version to be exact (see below)). It took me about an hour to juice enough to last me for the week, and I’m enjoying them every day. I bought plastic cups with lids to put in the fridge, so I can just grab one off the shelf like I typically would a Diet Coke. It’s good for me, and I’m gonna stick with it.
Here are two of my easy recipes:
To make 1 pitcher of carrot-orange juice: Juice 12 carrots, 7 oranges & 1 lemon. Pour into a pitcher and stir each day before pouring a tasty glass.
To make ½ pitcher of kale-apple juice: Juice 2 bunches of kale, 5 apples, 1 tsp of honey. Pour into pitcher and stir each day before enjoying.
