Pi Day Friday!

 March 14, 2014

This weekend starts off with Pi Day (3.1414) and begins to ramp up for St. Patty’s Day. Check out the fun events happening in San Francisco and have a fabulous weekend!

Pi Daypi

10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

March 14 @ Exploratorium

(415) 528-4444

Price: Free

Being an irrational number, pi cannot be expressed exactly as a common fraction. And being an inanimate object, The Exploratorium cannot express how effing excited it is for its 25th Annual Pi Day. If you were a fraction as worked up as The Exploratorium, your love would be like pi — never-ending. Even if you aren’t on the hunt to find a pattern in the famous constant, you’ll still be able to learn from mathematical experts and enjoy events like a Pi Shrine Installation (something tells us it will be round), a Pi parade, and giant servings of real-life, delicious pie that’s sweeter than 3.14. And with free admission all day, you never know who you might meet. Maybe someone who melts your heart like he’s Magnum P.I. Maybe you’ll hit it off and you can pi him a drink. Start a non-repeating conversation that goes on forever. Who knows how it ends? So go to the nerd side. They have pi.

CAAMFEST 2014

March 14, 2014teeth

7:20pm

Flat3 by Roseanne Liang

New People Cinema

1746 Post Street, San Francisco, CA 94115

Sassy, quirky and totally awkward, FLAT3 is a hilarious look at the lives of three Asian flatmates in Auckland, New Zealand. The series follows the trio of unlikely best friends — the pretty Jessica, the unfiltered Perlina and the quiet Lee. They look for answers to life’s most pressing questions: “What are we doing with our lives?”; “Where and how can we find true love?”; and “Which one of you keeps buying the skim milk!?”

Equal parts smart and silly, the girls are constantly finding themselves in the most trying social situations, resulting in some down right priceless comedy.

CAAM is excited to announce that the ladies of FLAT3 filmed exclusive new content premiering at CAAMFest 2014!

Portland Cello Project

Sunday, Mar 16 8:00pchello

Yoshi’s San Francisco Live Music & Restaurant

San Francisco, CA

Since the group’s inception in late 2007, the Portland Cello Project (or, PCP, as their fans affectionately call them), has wowed audiences all over the country with extravagant performances, everywhere from Prairie Home Companion, to that punk rock club in the part of town your grandma warns you not to go to after dark. The group has built a reputation mixing genres and blurring musical lines and perceptions wherever they go.

No two shows are alike, with a repertoire now numbering over 800 pieces of music you wouldn’t normally hear coming out of a cello. The Cello Project’s stage setup ranges from the very simple (4-6 cellos), to the all out epic (which has included 12 cellos playing with full choirs, winds, horns, and numerous percussion players).

The Cello Project’s mission is three-fold:
1: To bring the cello to places you wouldn’t normally hear it. (Everywhere from nightclubs to symphony halls, from sports bars to loading docks, from libraries to halftime at Portland Trailblazers games…)

2: To play music on the cello you wouldn’t normally hear played on the instrument. (Everything from Bach to Kanye to Pantera…)

3: To build bridges across all musical communities by bringing a diverse assortment of musical collaborators on stage with them. (Everyone from the Dandy Warhols to Peter Yarrow to Ben Sollee to Mirah to Garrison Keillor…

May your day and weekend embrace perfect symmetry.. and may you eat plenty o’ pie!
