Ever wonder what happens to many of the art pieces that you see at Burning Man go after the event ends. Or where one would build something so large in scale and wonder. We know of one place are are lucky enough to know many folks that work out of this industrial art paradise. Where you say? American Steel in West Oakland. Please join me on my recent adventure there.

America Steel isn’t open to the public, lucky for me I know some folks. As you can see from the size of the building this place is massive. No two rows of the building are the same. Some of the best known sculptures to come out of American Steel are the large steel sculptures are below. From the moment you walk in you are immediately surrounded by a creative feeling and art. Art as far as the eye can see.

I was there to work on a project for my friends at Sheet Metal Alchemist. Sean and Lara are the owners and artists behind SMA, and have been a hand in several over the top fire art sculptures and projects.
Below is “Zolterno” – A recent project playing off of the famous carnival game “Zoltar The Fortune Teller”.

Being able to visit this place just makes my head spin! There is so much talent in one place. I felt truly honored to be able to spend a couple day soaking it all up.

American Steel often has many art shows featuring the people that work out of the shop.
